Wasserbillig / Schengen (dpa / lrs) - In the corona pandemic, different rules are noticeable in EU countries, especially in border regions: For example, many Germans are currently going to the hairdresser in Luxembourg, where the salons are open - unlike in the German lockdown.

At some companies there is a big rush: “It's totally crazy right now.

Last week we were already fully booked for this week, ”says hairdresser Christina Helmling (34) in Wasserbillig, Luxembourg, near the border with Germany.

In Luxembourg, hairdressers have been able to serve customers again under strict conditions since January 11th.

Helmling also has many customers from Luxembourg.

But the appointment requests from Germany are currently extreme - also via your online booking system.

"We already had someone from Frankfurt here," says the native of Saarland (St. Ingbert), who lives in Trier, a good ten kilometers away.

Many other hairdressing shops in Luxembourg also have more German customers than usual - especially from Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.

The chairman of the state guild master at the State Association of Hairdressers and Cosmetics Rhineland, Guido Wirtz, sees this critically.

He understands customers who have their hair cut by hairdressers there: "But I ask everyone to remember that we will miss them as customers when we open again."

The hairdressing industry in Germany is currently "shitty", says Wirtz in Körperich (Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm).

Many have used up reserves - he assumes that around 30 percent would give up.

And he noticed that "the illegal work of employees and entrepreneurs is increasing."
