Lausanne (dpa) - The SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach has criticized the adherence of the International Olympic Committee to the Olympic plans and, in particular, IOC boss Thomas Bach.

Lauterbach called it “very problematic” that he continues to assume that the games in Tokyo will take place this summer.

This "stubborn perseverance with the attitude that top-class sport is practically exempt from the pandemic is very difficult to convey and also frustrates a lot of fans," said Lauterbach in a Sport1 interview.

Bach had previously rejected criticism of the efforts to host the Olympic Games.

"It is definitely not irresponsible," emphasized Bach, referring to the plans for various corona measures for the summer games and the large number of international sporting events that have already been held in recent months.

The IOC is “fully focused and committed” to hosting the games.

Bach shows «rigorous positions.

A certain humility is part of doing business.

Sometimes I miss them with Mr Bach, "said Lauterbach.

According to polls, a clear majority of the Japanese are currently in favor of the Games not taking place this summer.

For Lauterbach, hosting the European Football Championship would be “a wrong signal” at a “bad time”.

However, the European Football Union UEFA had previously confirmed that it would stick to its plan to hold a tournament in twelve cities.
