Hordorf (dpa / sa) - This Friday, the train accident in Hordorf (Bördekreis) with 10 dead and 22 injured ten years ago should be thought of in silence.

Firefighters would put a flower arrangement on the memorial stone, which reminds of the collision of a regional train with a freight train on the single-track route on January 29, 2011, said local mayor Norbert Kurzel.

After a trial at the Magdeburg Regional Court at the end of November 2012, the train driver of the freight train was found guilty of causing the accident.

He had run over two stop signals in the dark and in the fog and thus caused the head-on collision with the regional train, in which 32 passengers were sitting.

Eight of them as well as the train driver and the train attendant died.

The Magdeburg Regional Court found the then 41-year-old guilty of negligent homicide in 10 cases and negligent bodily harm in 22 cases and sentenced him to a one-year suspended prison sentence.

In August 2013 the judgment became final.
