The damage says a lot about the dilapidated state of the place.

The LPA refuge in the North of France, located in Roubaix, along the canal, had to close its doors to the public on Thursday.

Indeed, the rains, which fell on the North, on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, caused the collapse of part of the ceiling in the veterinary space.

"The most serious is the water which has also infiltrated into the electrical outlets, especially near the place where the fuel tank is located", specifies the spokesperson for LPA-NF.

The refuge is therefore closed to the public until a solution is found.

Transfer animals

"A recovering cat was in the room when the ceiling collapsed", says, in a Facebook post, the employees who discovered, this Thursday morning, the state of their refuge, when taking up duty .

He's fine, but spent the night soaked and under a layer of mold, according to the spokesperson.

In an emergency, the LPA is looking for internal solutions to transfer the animals to partner shelters including that of Lille.

About a hundred cats and fifty dogs are concerned, because the refuge also acts as a pound for 82 municipalities.

"If, with our volunteers, accommodation solutions are not sufficient, we will look for volunteer host families," underlines the LPA.

For many years, the LPA has been warning about the difficult reception conditions of its Roubaix center, owned by a semi-public company.

The 900 m2 building, opened more than 50 years ago, has long been out of date.

“For more than ten years we have been asking for land to build a new center, regrets the spokesperson.

To redo the roof, we had to redo the walls before ”.

Officials appeal to the Métropole de Lille.

So far, no solution has been found.
