Hanover (dpa / lni) - The anti-Semitism commissioner of the state of Lower Saxony, Franz Rainer Enste, has called for people to be vigilant against extremism and anti-Semitism, especially on the Internet.

Although the middle of society is "very well positioned" in terms of immunity against any form of extremism, Enste told the "Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung" (Thursday).

"In return, however, there are new forms of extremism and anti-Semitism in the covert that are certainly drawing wider circles."

Society must therefore remain vigilant in order to “put a stop to all forms of intolerance and anti-Semitism”.

Enste sees new forms in anti-Semitic conspiracy theories that emerge in chat rooms or on the Darknet.

“But there are also very common forms of insults, stupid jokes or aggression that are brought up to members of the Jewish community today.

And there are quite a few, "said the anti-Semitism officer.
