The timetable is becoming clearer as to a probable reconfinement.

The new measures expected to curb the Covid-19 epidemic in France will be the subject of a debate and a vote in the Assembly and the Senate next week, we learned from several politicians having participated this Thursday in meetings with Jean Castex.

The Prime Minister is indeed leading until tomorrow Friday a series of consultations with parliamentarians, associations of elected officials and social partners, at a time when the executive is studying different scenarios.

Emmanuel Macron could announce new measures this weekend or Monday.

The parliamentarians would then have to decide by a vote following a debate, according to article 50-1 of the Constitution, these politicians told AFP.

Véran fears a wave "even stronger than the previous ones"

Earlier in the day, the Minister of Health spoke at a press conference to take stock of the epidemiological situation in the country, and it seems to prepare the spirits for a new turn of the screw.

The concern relates in particular to the variants of the coronavirus: "(The number of cases of variants has increased from 500 per day at the beginning of January to 2,000 today", declared Olivier Véran, fearing a "stronger epidemic wave" even than the previous ones ”.

"The fact that these variants are spreading in our country makes us think that the curfew and all the control measures are certainly useful but probably not sufficient," he said, thus opening the door wide to a third confinement.
