Hanover (dpa / lni) - According to preliminary information, consumer prices in Lower Saxony rose by 0.8 percent in January compared to the same month last year.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products were 1.4 percent more expensive than in January 2020, but the beer price fell by 4.6 percent, as the Lower Saxony State Statistical Office announced on Thursday.

The prices for landline and mobile phones were considerably lower, falling by 7.5 percent.

Compared to December, the increase was 0.8 percent overall.

Among other things, this is due to the fact that the old VAT rate of 19 percent will apply again from January.

The tariff was temporarily reduced to 16 percent on July 1, 2020 due to the Corona crisis.

Due to the pricing for CO2 emissions, there is also a significant price increase for heating oil (plus 11.4 percent) and fuels (11.2 percent) compared to December.
