  The Russian State Duma website announced on the 27th that Russia and the United States signed an agreement on the 26th to extend the validity of the "New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty" for five years. The implementation of the treaty will help the nuclear disarmament process.

The State Duma held a meeting on the 27th and passed a bill submitted by President Putin on extending the validity of the treaty.

  In addition, according to an announcement published on the website of the Russian Federation Council on the 27th, the Russian Federation Council also approved an agreement to extend the validity period of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.

  Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov said that Russia and the United States agreed to extend the validity of the "New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty" for five years, providing the possibility for the two countries to continue dialogue on global strategic security issues in the future.

  The "New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty" was signed by the United States and Russia in 2010 and entered into force on February 5, 2011 with a 10-year validity.

After the U.S.-Russian "Intermediate-Range Treaty" expired in 2019, this treaty became the only arms control treaty between the two countries.

On the 26th of this month, Putin and U.S. President Biden spoke on the phone. Both sides agreed to complete all necessary procedures for extending the validity of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty in the near future.
