Augsburg (dpa) - In the discussion about a financial pandemic compensation for those receiving Hartz IV, Bavaria is also demanding additional help.

Hartz IV recipients and socially disadvantaged population groups need better masks and more disinfectants to protect them in the Corona crisis, said Bavaria's Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) of the “Augsburger Allgemeine” (Thursday).

"It all costs money, so we consider financial compensation for those in need to be necessary."

This also helps to curb the spread of highly contagious virus mutants.

Together with the Bavarian Minister of Social Affairs Carolina Trautner (CSU), Holetschek demanded in a letter from Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) that those in need be given additional financial support for the increased cost of living.

"The standard requirement rates for health care provide just an amount of 16.60 euros per month," said Trautner the newspaper.

This is not enough to absorb the additional burdens.

Most recently, the CDU social wing had also asked for a corona surcharge of 100 euros per month for recipients of Hartz IV in order to compensate for the additional costs due to the tightening of the mask requirement.

The federal and state governments had decided that the better protective FFP2 masks or surgical masks must be worn on buses and trains as well as in shops.

In Bavaria, only the more expensive FFP2 masks are permitted in local transport and retail.
