Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) considers a discussion about openings in the corona pandemic to be premature.

"We still have to be very careful with easing," said Woidke on Wednesday when asked.

“The infection numbers in Brandenburg are falling, but they are still too high.

We also know too little about the spread of the mutations, which is why compliance with the rules is so important right now. "

He could well understand that after a year of the corona pandemic, people wanted to know when the restrictions would end.

"But we have to honestly say that we cannot look into the future."

According to him, the heads of government are already dealing with scenarios for easing the situation.

"We agreed that at the last Prime Minister's Conference," said Woidke.

The incidence value is important for this, but not the only point.

"We also have to keep an eye on other aspects such as the spread of the mutations and the workload in the intensive care units."

Schools and daycare centers should be at the forefront when it comes to easing.

A permanent security for loosening is very closely connected with the vaccination protection of large parts of the population.

"The faster we progress with the vaccination, the faster our life will return to normal," said Woidke.

The state government in Schleswig-Holstein has developed a step-by-step plan to cope with the corona pandemic, which provides for openings in four stages from mid-February.

If the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a country is stable below 100 for seven days in a week, meetings of five people from two households, visits to hairdressers and limited day-care centers as well as alternating lessons in schools could be possible.

If the incidence is stable below 35 for seven days, meetings of ten people from several households should be possible, schools should go into normal operation, theaters and cinemas should reopen.

A tough lockdown has been in effect in Brandenburg since December 16.

The value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in one week was 163 on Wednesday - well over 100. The Brandenburg CDU members of the state parliament Michael Schierack and Frank Bommert see reason for hope in the recently lower infection figures.

Now it is time to think about openings and loosening.
