He also announced a telephone conversation with the Canadian Foreign Minister, noting that Canada is the closest ally of the United States.
The US Secretary of State expressed hope for working with Canada to advance common interests and confront common challenges.
Earlier, the US Senate approved Anthony Blinken as Secretary of State.
