Demonstration in support of victims of assault Wednesday January 27, 2020 in Nantes.

The call for demonstrations, launched by the association “Sécurité nocturne Nantes”, did not meet with great success.

Thirty people still braved the rain to meet this Wednesday afternoon in front of the emergency room of the Nantes University Hospital.

A symbolic place since it is precisely in the emergency room of the public hospital that a band of hooded individuals came to seek by force, at the end of last week, a suspect arrested by the police.

A spectacular assault which comes on top of an already busy month of January in terms of violence in the Nantes metropolis (murder of a high school student, shootings, kidnappings, attacks on police officers and TAN agents, etc.).

"A milestone has been crossed"

This Wednesday, these traders, restaurateurs, bar workers, security agents or caregivers present wanted to show their "support for the victims".

They also wanted to express their "fed up" and "concern" at a growing feeling of insecurity.

"We want actions to fight against aggression, there we rather have the feeling that the situation is getting worse," says Nicolas, a vigilante himself victim of aggression.

Gilles, a restaurant owner in the city center, considers that a “milestone has been crossed”.

“There is a feeling of impunity from violent groups, especially at night.

We've been alerting the authorities for three years.

We need additional police resources.

"

Member of Parliament Valérie Oppelt (LREM) took part in the rally, as did the opposition councilor Foulques Chombart de Lauwe (LR).
