Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The NRW Ministry of Health has started a project that is intended to record the spread of corona mutations in the state “as quickly and comprehensively as possible”.

So far it is largely unclear how far virus mutations have spread in North Rhine-Westphalia, the ministry announced on Wednesday morning.

The project will be led by Professor Alexander Mellmann from the Institute for Hygiene at the University Hospital in Münster.

According to the ministry, it will be funded with 200,000 euros.

In NRW, too, infections with two of the mutations were recently known.

There is the mutation B.1.1.7, which was first discovered in England, and the variant which first appeared in South Africa (B.1.351).

According to the ministry, there have so far been eleven proven cases of the British variant and three of the South African in NRW.

There are also suspected cases that are being investigated.
