Hürth (AP) - The singer Lucas Cordalis (53) wants to follow in the footsteps of his father Costa and participate in the RTL show "I'm a star - get me out of here" next year.

"In 2022 I will go to Australia with you and go to the jungle camp," he said on Wednesday evening in the jungle camp replacement show.

His father, Costa Cordalis ("Anita"), who died in 2019, was the first RTL jungle king to write television history in 2004.

"I always thought: One king per household is enough," said Lucas Cordalis, who is married to reality star Daniela Katzenberger.

Out of respect for his father, he has so far refused RTL's requests to travel to the Australian jungle.

But now is the moment.

His mother-in-law Iris Klein was also a candidate on the show.

His sister-in-law, Katzenberger sister Jenny Frankhauser, became the jungle queen in 2018.

Because the Cologne private broadcaster had to cancel the jungle camp from Australia this year due to the corona pandemic, the RTL “jungle show” is currently running, and Cordalis junior was a guest.

The winner of the show has a place in the program "I am a star - get me out of here" in the coming year for sure.

The first semi-final was broadcast on Wednesday evening.

According to the Cordalis personality, however, the finalists determined were a minor matter.

Reality TV candidate Mike Heiter (“Love Island”) was voted into the final - as was “Prince Charming” winner Lars Tönsfeuerborn.

For the singer Lydia Kelovitz (“Germany is looking for the superstar”) and model Zoe Saip (“Germany's next top model”), the dream of the Australian jungle was over.

The remaining two finalists are to be determined in the second semi-final on Thursday.

The episode also featured a recap of the very first season of the hit show that Cordalis senior won at the time.

His fellow camper, ex-track and field athlete Carlo Thränhardt, remembered his nightly gossip, which has become legendary, with presenter Caroline Beil.

At that time he really couldn't imagine that all of this would be broadcast, he said.

His idea of the jungle camp was completely different.

He thought it was a "Tarzan number".

He was melancholy remembering Costa Cordalis, who died in 2019 - also because he is not the only candidate from the first season who is no longer alive.

Werner Böhm, the singer who became known as Gottlieb Wendehals, has also died.

Singer Daniel Küblböck disappeared from a cruise ship off the coast of Canada in 2018 at the age of 33.

The investigators assumed suicide.

The presenter of the show, Sonja Zietlow, remembered her colleague and co-presenter Dirk Bach, who moderated the jungle together with her until he died in 2012.
