Pullach (AP) - The car rental company Sixt is rejuvenating its board.

On Wednesday, the company appointed the long-standing Sixt and DriveNow car sharing manager Nico Gabriel as the successor to fleet manager Detlev Pätsch, who will turn 70 this year.

The 43-year-old has the "task of completing the amalgamation of car rental and mobility services and consolidating the positioning as an integrated global mobility provider," said supervisory board chairman Friedrich Joussen.

In future, Gabriel will be responsible for the 2100 rental stations worldwide and the offers on the online platform.

He started at Sixt as a trainee in 2004, then was Operations and Business Development Manager for Scandinavia, the Middle East and Australia and Managing Director of DriveNow.

Sixt announced that he had built the joint venture with BMW "into one of the largest and at the same time profitable car sharing providers in Europe".

CEO Erich Sixt was convinced that Gabriel “will make a significant contribution to our growth strategy”.

His son, Chief Strategy Officer Alexander Sixt, said: "We will expand our station network and the associated number of our service employees and at the same time drive digitalization."

Under the previous fleet manager Pätsch, the rental fleet grew from almost 10,000 to a good 250,000 vehicles today.

"Without his commitment, Sixt would certainly not be where we are today," said the 76-year-old company patriarch Erich Sixt.
