Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - After only one week, the verdict is to be announced in the trial against a suspected terrorist of the Tamil terror group LTTE this Thursday.

The man from Werne near Dortmund is said to have detonated a bomb remotely in front of an army convoy in Sri Lanka at the age of 15, killing six people, as accused by the Düsseldorf Public Prosecutor's Office in their indictment.

The process begins at 10.30 a.m.

The verdict is expected around noon.

However, the allegations were largely based on the defendant's own statements when he applied for asylum.

At the start of the trial in the high-security wing of the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court, the now 27-year-old had revoked it.

His information at the Federal Office was wrong.

In addition, an expert came to the conclusion that the statements made in the asylum procedure in 2018 were probably incorrect.

Six people are said to have been killed and many more injured in the attack in September 2008.

If convicted, the accused faces the maximum youth sentence of ten years in prison.

The Tamil “Liberation Tigers” LTTE fought for decades for a state of the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka and against the oppression by the Sinhalese majority.

The civil war has now ended and the LTTE has been defeated and smashed since 2009.
