After eighteen years spent in Paris, Virginie, 40, is back in Toulouse.

Chief Brigadier, this policewoman is one of the thirteen reinforcements promised by Jean Castex within the framework of the integrated security contract which commits both the city and the State on security issues.

By next year, 98 additional national police officers should be transferred to Toulouse, whether within the staff of the departmental security, to work on investigations, or on the public highway for emergency police matters.

Virginie is already in a pedestrian brigade and hopes to participate in renewing the dialogue with the population.

"There is a link to rebuild, it will take a long time, it is up to us to put it in place", assures the 40-year-old official when she takes up her post at the Bellefontaine police station on Wednesday.

Rather than a return of the local police, experienced in Toulouse in 1999 before being dismantled by Nicolas Sarkozy, the departmental director of public security of Haute-Garonne, Jean-Cyrille Reymond prefers to see "a return of the proximity to the police ”.

And to achieve this, they are counting on these new staff but also on an organization of the Toulouse police organized from March into two poles: right bank, around Bellefontaine, and left bank.

A redistribution that will not necessarily involve the return of small police stations in the neighborhoods, often synonymous with fewer staff in the field.

Two municipal police services

All hope that these new arrivals will make it possible to have a more visible police force on the ground to play a role, in particular in the fight against drug trafficking.

“These are not simple replacements of agents who are retiring.

I will not have fought for that, ”assures his side Jean-Luc Moudenc who has been asking for reinforcements for a long time.

This Friday, the city council is expected to vote on the principle of hiring 20 additional municipal police officers per year over the next five years.

"From this year, we will also be experimenting with municipal offices in the district town halls of Borderouge and Saint-Simon", continues the mayor of Toulouse.

This is the give-and-take side of the contract on which the Toulouse municipality was the first to sign.

This also involves the deployment of 100 additional video surveillance cameras.
