Berlin (dpa / lsw) - In order to finance his place in a nursing home in Baden-Württemberg, a patient has to dig deeper and deeper into his pocket.

According to data from the Association of Substitute Health Insurance Funds based in Berlin, the co-payment averaged EUR 2405 per month at the beginning of the year.

It was 51 euros above the value in July last year.

As before, the proportion in the south-west is the second highest in a country comparison after North Rhine-Westphalia (2460 euros).

With 1465 euros, people in need of care in Saxony-Anhalt pay the least, the national average is 2068 euros.

The sums include, on the one hand, the co-payment for pure care and support, which, according to the information, is primarily costs for the staff.

Because, unlike health insurance, long-term care insurance only bears part of the costs.

For home residents, there are also costs for accommodation, food and investments in the facilities.

It is noticeable that the co-payment for pure care alone is the highest in Baden-Württemberg with an average of 1121 euros.

Only in Berlin is it in the four-digit range at 1034 euros - and nationwide at 831 euros.

The honorary chairman of the association, Uwe Klemens, explained: “If nothing happens with the personal contributions, then more and more people will be dependent on social assistance benefits.

This already affects around ten percent of all those in need of care. "

The cap of EUR 700 for a maximum of 36 months proposed by Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) is a step in the right direction.
