Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Due to delays in delivery of the vaccine against the corona virus, the necessary second vaccinations in Brandenburg will be postponed.

According to the Ministry of Health on Wednesday, the previously planned period between the first and second vaccination will be extended from three to four weeks.

This means that they remain within the period recommended by the Standing Vaccination Commission at the Robert Koch Institute, according to which the second dose should not be administered later than six weeks.

The shift affects vaccinations in hospitals, vaccination centers and mobile teams that vaccinate in old people's homes.

All second vaccinations are secured, said ministry spokesman Gabriel Hesse.

The ministry had initially announced that half of the corona vaccine received will be withheld for the second vaccination - the second dose provides better protection.

Now, in a response from the ministry, the second vaccination is “mathematically secured” for all initial vaccinations that have already taken place.

Intended vaccination goals could not be achieved if 50 percent reserve was physically withheld from each delivery.

Several media had previously reported.
