Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) has warned of a third corona wave.
"We absolutely have to prevent a third wave from occurring," said Laschet on Wednesday in the state parliament in Düsseldorf.
The second corona wave was already much more violent than the first - with more infections, more severe courses and significantly more deaths.
"There will be no hasty openings that could endanger what has been achieved," said Laschet, who is also the new CDU federal chairman.
Because a third wave, driven by a mutated, highly contagious virus, “will hit us even harder”.
A long-term plan could not be offered in view of the uncertainties in connection with the occurrence of mutated viruses and vaccine delivery difficulties at the pharmaceutical companies.
