Paderborn (dpa / lno) - Holstein Kiel remains economical in the point yield in the new year.

The team of coach Ole Werner separated from Bundesliga relegated SC Paderborn 1: 1 (1: 1) on Wednesday evening and missed the jump to a promotion place in the 2nd Bundesliga.

The Kieler moved up to third place.

KSV Holstein has already scored 19 points in nine games on foreign territory and remains the only team in the league without an away defeat this season.

Marco Komenda (15th minute) scored the goal for the guests, Chris Führich (2nd) scored for Paderborn.

Sports director Uwe Stöver spoke of a fair draw.

"We weren't as good as usual. We have to and can live with the point," he said.

At the start of the game, the Kiel did not seem to be on the point.

Coach Ole Werner had warned his men of the hectic pace and stress that the Paderborn team would spread with their intense and fast-paced game.

He should be right.

After a mistake by Jonas Meffert, Paderborn had no trouble taking the lead after less than 120 seconds.

Just four minutes later, central defender Komenda also made a gross mistake, but Paderborn's goal scorer Führich put the ball over the box this time.

Only then did the people of Kiel recover.

Komenda pushed a free kick taken by Holstein right-back Jannik Dehm to equalize over the line.

«We wanted to win the game.

After the game, today was no longer possible.

the 1: 1 in the English week is fine, ”said the Komenda, who scored his first goal of the season.

After this furious start, both teams shifted down a gear.

The high starting pace in the double English week for both teams would probably have cost too much strength.

So chances were handpicked on both sides.

It only got more eventful after the break.

From now on there were opportunities on both sides.

Both teams attacked the opponents early to force them to make mistakes and start their own counterattacks.

So the action on the lawn remained varied and entertaining.

There were no further goals.

So this year the Kielers are still with a win in five games (2 defeats, 2 draws).
