Berlin / Munich (dpa) - Clubs, festivals and music performance venues can expect new Corona aid.

The music rights exploiter Gema announced a further 19 million euros from the federal government's cultural package in Munich.

Previously, 30 million euros had already flowed to Gema for the applicants.

"In the case of the Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters, the Gema campaigned for an increase in the funding amount in order to be able to approve 280 open applications," it said in a message.

"Around five million euros have already been paid out, the rest will follow in the next few weeks."

The allocation and payment of the 49 million euros should be completed by the end of February at the latest.

"The existence of this branch of industry is threatened by the ban on public events," said Gema boss Harald Heker.

Grütters is quoted as follows: "We need the many small and large stages, the clubs and festivals in our country so that musicians of every genre can perform live in front of an audience as soon as possible."

Before the second lockdown for culture, the federal government had launched its own program worth one billion euros.

Grütters now wants to have this increased by a further 1.5 billion, also because the second lockdown had not yet been priced in.
