Bayreuth (dpa / lby) - There are further suspected cases of the highly contagious Corona mutation from Great Britain in the Bayreuth Clinic.

As the hospital reported on Wednesday, 21 new infections were found in a series of tests of almost 3,000 clinic employees.

"Twelve of these people are suspected of being infected with the so-called English mutation of the virus," reported the clinic.

The total number of suspected cases of the B.1.1.7 mutation thus increased to 23.

However, the suspected cases still have to be finally confirmed, which will take some time.

The virus was found on several wards in the hospital.

The clinic's houses were closed for the time being.

The more than 3000 employees are in quarantine outside of their working hours.

The mutation B.1.1.7 is not more dangerous in the course of the disease, but is much more contagious, said the clinic.

Depending on the study, the risk of infection should be 50 to 70 percent higher
