Halle (dpa / sa) - Every sixth employee residing in Saxony-Anhalt commutes to work in another federal state.

In June 2020, this affected 141 088 people - almost 2500 less than a year earlier, as the regional directorate Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia announced to the Federal Employment Agency on Wednesday in Halle.

Most worked in Lower Saxony (40 274), followed by Saxony (34 669) and Thuringia (14 019).

The out-commuter quota was 16.5 percent, it said.

According to the employment agency, in June of the previous year there were 856 015 employees subject to social insurance contributions in the country.

The number of those who come to work in Saxony-Anhalt also fell in June 2020 compared to the same period in the previous year.

68 994 people commuted (June 2019: 69 922), it said.

The employees came from the neighboring countries of Saxony (25,139), Thuringia (9309), Lower Saxony (8809) and Brandenburg (7680).

Commuters also come to Saxony-Anhalt from abroad, mostly from Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
