January 27, 2021 More than 18,000 deaths from Covid-19 were recorded in 24 hours around the world: a new record, according to the AFP count made today based on reports communicated by health authorities. 



In particular, there are 18,109 deaths. 



From January 20 to 26, the world recorded 101,366 deaths, or 14,000 on average every day: it was the week with the most victims since the beginning of the epidemic.

At the end of November, the average was 10,000 deaths per day.   



Since the beginning of January, mortality from Covid has accelerated considerably.

By the end of November, the world had passed the ceiling of 10,000 daily deaths.

Then 11,000 in mid-December, 12,000 on January 8, 13,000 three days later and the peak of 14,000 daily deaths from January 22, which was surpassed today.

Five countries accounted for more than half of the 101,000 deaths recorded last week: the United States (23,675), Mexico (9,184), the United Kingdom (8,692), Brazil (7,387) and Germany (5,368).



In total, the world has recorded 2.16 million deaths and surpassed the threshold of 100 million cases, from the first reported in China in December 2019.
