2019 - German Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) is awarded the Fulbright Prize for international understanding in Berlin.

The American Fulbright Association recognizes Merkel as an “outstanding leader and for her strong commitment to mutual understanding, international cooperation and peace”.

2016 - The first asylum seekers in Germany receive refugee ID cards.
