Karlsruhe (dpa) - Hannover 96 missed the connection to the top group of the 2nd Bundesliga.

The Lower Saxony lost the chase duel at Karlsruher SC on Wednesday with an own goal by Kingsley Schindler (65th minute) with 0: 1 (0: 0).

While KSC, which was still undefeated this year, moved up to four points on the relegation rank, Hannover fell back to eighth place at the start of the second half.

The Lower Saxony confirmed their meager record on foreign courses.

In the tenth game, only ten points and three wins are not enough for a promotion aspirant.

The guests started briskly, but missed the early lead through Genki Haraguchi (7th) and Marvin Ducksch (10th).

The KSC then made the game more balanced.

In the 18th minute, Hanover's Sei Muroya cleared in his own six-yard box, shortly before the break, Kyoung-rok Choi tested Hanover's keeper Michael Esser with a shot from an acute angle (45th).

In between, Schindler gave the more active Lower Saxony another chance per head (26th).

The Hanoverians, who shot 17 times on opposing goals, could not exploit their superiority.

Despite the miserable space available, the game remained entertaining in the second half.

After a header opportunity by Karlsruhe's Daniel Gordon (54th), Ducksch failed on the other side at the brilliantly reacting goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck (58th).

25 minutes before the end, Schindler extended a corner of the KSC with a head into his own network.

Hanover came again, but Joker Hendrik Weydandt could not overcome Gersbeck either (80th).
