Aachen (dpa / lnw) - The recommendation of the city of Aachen to boil the water due to bacterial contamination of the drinking water continued to apply on Wednesday.

The reason for this is the detection of coli bacteria in a routine check, announced the municipal utilities.

Drinking water should continue to be boiled in the urban area.

The entire urban area with 150,000 households is affected.

According to the municipal utilities, a small amount of the bacteria was found.

They are a common cause of gastrointestinal infections, among other things.

The bacteria were detected at a pressure control station.

This station receives drinking water from three waterworks, which again showed no abnormalities.

The city had issued the first warning on Tuesday evening.

The municipal utilities stated that water should be boiled for three minutes before being used to prepare food, brush teeth or wash up food.
