Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The party conference of the Baden-Württemberg AfD planned in Stuttgart will not take place.

The state executive announced this in a letter that was available to the German press agency.

The MPs wanted to meet on February 6th and 7th in the Stuttgart Exhibition Center to draw up the state list for the federal election in September.

As the reason for the rejection, the state executive named a requirement of the health department, which stipulates a minimum area of ten square meters per person in the exhibition hall.

"We would only be able to meet this requirement if we limited the number of participants for the constellation meeting," said the letter from the party executive committee.

A limitation of the number of participants is not provided for in the statutes and would create considerable legal uncertainty.

So far, the AfD had estimated four square meters per participant.

However, they do not want to initiate legal proceedings against the health department because the chances of success are uncertain and an immense cost risk is associated with a failed attempt at implementation or a very short-term cancellation.

The state executive now wants to discuss how the list for the Bundestag election can be guaranteed without an attendance meeting.
