Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Saxony-Anhalt provides 200,000 medical mouth and nose protective masks for people in financial need via the food banks for the needy.

Social Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) will hand over the three-layer disposable masks on Thursday in Magdeburg.

They should pass the boards on to people who receive basic benefits or small pensions.

Since Monday, everyone has to wear a surgical mask or an FFP2 mask when shopping or using public transport.

"The distribution of 200,000 masks to people in need through the boards is an important step in solidarity," said the minister.

“We are in close contact with the federal government in order to take further steps.

People must be protected from the risk of infection regardless of their wallet. "
