Munich (AP) - A landlord has been sentenced to three years in prison by the Munich District Court I for allegedly forcing his tenant and two other girls to have sex - not only with him, but also with other men.

He was convicted of particularly severe forced prostitution, exploitative pimping and promoting sexual acts by minors, the court announced on Tuesday.

A co-defendant was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for the sexual abuse of young people.

The 58-year-old main defendant had denied allegations that he had asked three young women to have sex with him or other men.

At the start of the trial, he said that he had not raped any of the women or pressured them into prostitution, contrary to the prosecution's opinion.

However, he admitted that in 2019 they had received suitors for sexual services in his apartment under his organization.

"I slipped in there."

According to the indictment, the eldest of the three women, then aged 15, 17 and 28, was said to have previously offered a room in his apartment.

The prosecution charged him with taking advantage of the fact that some of the women were in massive financial and personal distress and were addicted to drugs.

In Munich, where living has been becoming more and more expensive for years, it happens again and again that tenants and, above all, tenants are only offered an apartment for sexual consideration, said Volker Rastätter, managing director of the DMB tenants' association in Munich, when the process began in December : "Here unscrupulous people are mercilessly exploiting the extreme housing shortage in Munich and the emergency situation of many apartment hunters."

So far, according to the impression of the DMB, this has not been a mass phenomenon, "but each individual case is one too many".
