Munich (dpa / lby) - At the Ludwig Maximilians University Hospital in Munich, around 1000 corona patients were treated within a year, almost a quarter of them in intensive care units.

Almost 15 percent of all Covid-19 patients at the LMU clinic died of or with the virus disease, the clinic announced on Tuesday.

Especially after the Christmas holidays there was a significant increase in the number of patients in the intensive care units, reported Bernhard Zwißler, director of the Clinic for Anesthesiology.

"The numbers are now slowly falling again."

The doctors at the LMU clinic pay special attention to the long-term consequences.

"According to the current state of research, around ten to 15 percent still suffer from symptoms such as physical exhaustion, shortness of breath, headaches and impaired olfactory senses, even more than three months after a SARS-CoV-2 infection," says Elham Khatamzas, senior physician for infectious diseases at LMU Clinic.

This affects patients with mild and severe courses and all age groups.
