London (dpa) - Can he help Timo Werner and Kai Havertz to regain their old strength?

Liberating the German national team from their form of low form, which has persisted for weeks, is one of Thomas Tuchel's most important tasks as soon as the expected commitment as the new Chelsea coach is perfect.

The 47-year-old comes to London with great praise.

British media welcomed the commitment of the “crazy genius” (“Telegraph”), “visionary” (BBC), “outstanding talent developer and football scientist” (“The Athletic”).

But at Stamford Bridge, only success counts.

There were hardly any recently - despite a € 250 million transfer offensive in the summer.

After just one win from the last eight games, the alleged title contender in the Premier League has dropped to ninth place in the table.

Tuchel, who had to leave Paris Saint-Germain a few weeks ago, is supposed to bring billionaire Roman Abramowitsch's club back to the top group in a hurry.

More than the qualification for the Champions League is probably no longer possible.

His predecessor Frank Lampard also failed because he did not succeed in integrating the highly talented newcomers Werner and Havertz into the team.

Different systems, changing positions - he tried and tried in vain.

Most recently, the German duo was not even regularly in the starting line-up.

In Lampard's last game, the 3-1 cup win over Luton Town, Werner missed a penalty.

The scene was symbolic of the current lack of confidence.

In Paris, Tuchel showed that he can create a top team from expensive individualists - including superstars like Neymar and Kylian Mbappé.

The British Guardian called the native Krumbacher “a kind of anti-lampard”.

The “underqualified celebrity” was followed by a “Bavarian over-nerd, tactical modernist and detail-obsessed trainer,” wrote the paper.

Lampard has been accused of giving too few instructions.

No one should complain about this to Tuchel, who leaves nothing to chance.

He has already worked successfully with some professionals.

With Christian Pulisic, Tuchel won the DFB Cup with Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

With Thiago Silva as PSG captain, he won two French championships.

Antonio Rüdiger, who lost his regular place under Lampard, can certainly hope for more assignments in the future.

Tuchel once wanted to guide the German defender to Paris.

And yet: It cannot be assumed that Chelsea, as was sometimes read, was specifically looking for a German coach for its German stars.

According to reports, linguistic reasons were not a criterion for choosing a football teacher, especially since the DFB trio speak good English.

In fact, Tuchel was already on the list of those responsible for Chelsea in 2018 - long before Werner and Havertz.

Allegedly, people at Stamford Bridge already regret that the former Mainz and Dortmund coach was not signed back then.

His demanding attacking football with lightning-fast pressing is exactly to the taste of owner Abramowitsch.

In his last positions, however, Tuchel was no longer in agreement with those responsible for the club: In Dortmund, BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke, in his own words, no longer saw a basis for a trust-based and prospective cooperation.

In Paris there were differences of opinion with PSG sports director Leonardo.

In London, he has to get along well with billionaire Abramovich and the powerful sports director Marina Granovskaya.

The fact that Lampard had gotten wrong with Granovskaya is said to have been the decisive factor in the change of coach.
