Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - Third division soccer team 1. FC Saarbrücken has to do without his head of defense Steven Zellner for months.

The central defender suffered a partial rupture of the cruciate ligament in the home game against VfB Lübeck on Sunday, as the Saarlanders announced on Tuesday.

Initially, the 29-year-old defender was even feared that the cruciate ligament would tear.

An operation is not planned, instead the irritation in the knee should first subside through conservative treatment.

Even if the healing process is optimal, Zellner will be absent from the club for a good three months.
