Berlin (dpa / bb) - In no other German federal state has the number of people in work remained as stable in 2020 as in Berlin.

While there was an average decline of 1.1 percent during the Corona crisis in Brandenburg and nationwide, Berlin only recorded a minus of 0.2 percent, as the Berlin-Brandenburg Statistics Office announced on Tuesday.

In the past year, 3500 women and men in Berlin were less gainfully employed than in 2019.

Short-time working in connection with Berlin’s economic structure prevented a more pronounced decline: a good 1.8 million out of a total of 2.06 million workers in Berlin work in the service sector, where hardly any jobs were lost;

there was even an increase in public employers and in the health sector.

This is different in the manufacturing sector: there was a decrease of 2.6 percent.
