Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabiei announced that his country will suspend the implementation of the additional protocol for the IAEA monitoring of Iran's nuclear activities on February 21 if the rest of the parties do not abide by their pledges.

Rabiei added that America's opportunity to return to the nuclear agreement and implement its obligations has become limited. He said that "dialogue with the United States is not currently on the table, and we had no contact with the Biden administration, and any development in the negotiation file depends on the implementation of International Resolution 2231."

He stressed that Tehran is awaiting the announcement of Washington's official positions on how to return to the nuclear agreement and lift the sanctions imposed on his country, adding, "We hope that Washington will take practical measures to enhance confidence and show goodwill."

For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that saving the nuclear deal is one of the most pressing issues during the current period.

During talks with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif in Moscow, Lavrov said that Iran and Russia are interested in returning to implementing the nuclear deal.

Lavrov added that Moscow and Tehran share a common desire to achieve regional security and stability, and that they support the launch of a dialogue between the countries of the Gulf region and support the political settlement in Afghanistan and the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister praised the convergence of Russian and Iranian positions in the regional files, and appreciated Russia's position in support of Iran with regard to the nuclear agreement.
