Gelsenkirchen (dpa) - The financially ailing and threatened with relegation FC Schalke 04 receives financial aid.

As the bottom of the table in the Bundesliga announced on Tuesday, the contracts with two sponsoring partners have been extended on a long-term basis.

"Immediate special payments were agreed with both companies," the statement said.

The contract with the Gelsenkirchen personnel service provider “Stölting” was extended to July 30, 2029 and, according to information from the “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung”, is intended to provide the Revierclub with “important emergency aid in the single-digit million euro range”.

In addition, the cooperation with the meat group Böklunder, a subsidiary of the former Schalke supervisory board chairman Clemens Tönnies, will be extended until June 30, 2024.

A few weeks ago, similar plans by the club's management to develop additional sources of money had come to nothing.

The attempt to extend the sponsorship contract with Böklunder failed because of the veto of two members of the supervisory board.

Tönnies had made a unanimous decision of the committee a condition.

Schalke board member Alexander Jobst explained why the deal came about after all: “This is a pure sponsorship business - the contract was extended as normal, without any other demands or claims.

This is therefore a common decision made by the Board of Management. "

The agreement is "not linked to any conditions or additional obligations."
