Dresden (dpa / sn) - The number of training contracts in the craft has decreased slightly in the Corona crisis.

Around 5,400 apprenticeship contracts had been signed by the end of December, as announced by the Saxon Crafts Day on Tuesday.

That was about 100 less (-1.8 percent) than the year before.

In this way, craft businesses could have won over numerous young people for dual vocational training despite “massive hurdles and restrictions”.

With 5154 apprenticeship positions, most of the contracts are for company training positions.

“Craftsmen are evidently sought-after as employers and trainers even in times of crisis,” says Handwerkstag President Roland Ermer.

In the new training year, which began in September 2020, there was more encouragement for professions such as roofer, bricklayer and baker.

Most of the apprenticeship contracts, however, were concluded with automotive mechatronics engineers, electronics engineers and mechanics for plumbing, heating and air conditioning.

Around 700 open apprenticeship positions are already listed for the 2021/22 training year.
