Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - In Halle, preparations have started for the establishment of a new central gaming supervisory authority for the federal states.

The institution will start work at the beginning of 2023, said Interior Minister Michael Richter (CDU) on Tuesday after deliberations in the black-red-green cabinet.

There are talks about renting a property.

The state administration office has already started to hire staff.

The authority should initially take over tasks that arise from the new State Treaty on Gambling, until the new state institution begins its work.

Saxony-Anhalt's state government approved a draft amendment to gaming law on Tuesday.

This is intended to implement a state treaty between the federal states in state law.

The Landtag has the last word.

The new changes are intended to legalize previously forbidden online gambling, internet casinos and similar offers - and to regulate them with strict requirements and control mechanisms.

In this context, a new central supervisory authority is to be set up, which will have its seat in Halle.

According to previous plans, around 110 jobs are to be created there.

For this, the state parliaments must ratify the State Treaty on Gambling.
