Stuttgart (dpa) - Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann assumes that daycare centers and primary schools in the state can gradually reopen from next Monday.

He will make the final decision this Wednesday, said Kretschmann on Tuesday in Stuttgart.

The corona infection numbers have been falling for almost three weeks and this trend is resilient.

"That is why it is responsible to do that," said the Green politician.

Unless something surprising happens, daycare centers and elementary schools will be able to “carefully” open again in alternation.

Like most secondary schools, these have been closed since December 18th.

The head of government said the basic structure of the Ministry of Culture's concept for opening up was in place.

The classes would be halved.

There is no compulsory attendance and emergency care is guaranteed.

In addition, there are high-quality masks for teachers in primary schools.

The number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days continues to fall in Baden-Württemberg in the wake of the lockdown and is currently 86.9.

Just before Christmas, that seven-day incidence in the Southwest was over 200.
