Kempten (AP) - After a fatal knife attack in a bus in the Allgäu, the murder trial against a man begins today at the Kempten district court.

He is accused of having stabbed his wife several times with a kitchen knife in Obergünzburg (Ostallgäu district) in front of several students in July 2020 (Az. 210 Js 12078/20).

If convicted, he faces a life sentence.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the 38-year-old with Afghan nationality hit his wife after an argument in November 2019 and threatened to stab her with a knife.

As a result, he lived apart from his family, but repeatedly verbally threatened his wife.

In February 2020, he was therefore prohibited from contacting her.

The motive for the knife attack was revenge, according to the prosecutor.

The accused had developed "a considerable resentment" against his wife because he could no longer fulfill the role of head of the family.

The man feared that he would lose his reputation as a result.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the man planned to kill the 27-year-old in a bus because she did not expect an attack there.

The defendant surprised his wife with the attack “without any warning” shortly before she wanted to get out.

After a short escape, the man was arrested by investigators.

The woman was critically injured in a clinic, but the doctors were unable to save her.

According to the Kempten Regional Court, a judgment is expected in mid-February.
