Kiel (dpa / lno) - The University of Kiel is committed to a joint initiative by the federal and state governments for digitization at universities.

"There is a digital pact for schools, but none for universities," said President Simone Fulda of the German Press Agency.

After all, digitization is not just a big task for schools.

Rather, it is also presenting universities with enormous challenges, especially in the corona pandemic.

"The universities must also be given appropriate financial support," said Fulda.

A federal-state program would be desirable for this.

"We are talking about a national task to ensure the competitiveness and future viability of Germany as a science location as a whole."

The digital transformation of universities is associated with significant costs that cannot be covered by the basic institutional budgets.
