Kiel / Hamburg (dpa / lno) - In contrast to Hamburg and many other federal states, appointments for corona vaccinations in Schleswig-Holstein are not assigned centrally by the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, but by the ticketing and concert experts Eventim.

The reason for the decision was the experience of the company from Bremen, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Kiel of the German press agency.

According to the ministry, the company is able to provide “a limited good”, i.e. vaccination appointments, even when the number of inquiries is high.

The experiences so far have been positive.

In Hamburg, after the rush for the first 20,000 appointments for the vaccination center in the exhibition halls at the end of the week before last, there was criticism of the system of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians.

Social Senator Melanie Leonhard (SPD) had announced that she would look for alternatives if accessibility and service quality did not improve.

She trusts that this has now happened, said her spokesman.

It was still unclear when new appointments could be made in Hamburg due to the delays in vaccine delivery.

For the first time, second vaccinations should be given on Tuesday in the Hamburg exhibition halls, for which the vaccine doses were withheld.

With 500 appointments per day, the number of daily vaccinations will be doubled, said a spokesman for the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians.

The center is designed for up to 7000 vaccinations per day, for which appointments would have to be organized.

This unprecedented "huge logistical and organizational task (...) can only be mastered by a tight organization that also has the necessary flexibility to react quickly, as is currently the case with fewer vaccine deliveries," said Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of Health Heiner Garg (FDP) of the dpa.

If one wants to fulfill the promise of the federal government, around 3.4 million vaccination appointments would have to be allocated in Schleswig-Holstein alone at the end of the summer.

"It is important to us to get the existing vaccine to the people as soon as possible - and we have succeeded in doing so in Schleswig-Holstein," said Garg.

His spokesman gave an example: “Within a minute, more than 4,000 appointments were reserved in shopping carts.

At the top of the registration process, there were up to 3225 clicks per second on Impfen-SH.de, according to Eventim. "

That is comparable to the start of ticket sales for an international pop star's tour.

"It therefore makes sense to use software that was also used at other major events such as the soccer world championship."

The scheduling is actually “not that different from major events,” said Alexander Ruoff, Eventim's Chief Operating Officer, of the dpa.

"That means limited capacities, ideally many interested parties."

One is used to that.

“In Schleswig-Holstein the system is very stable and very efficient.

But of course the shortage of vaccination doses cannot be solved by us. "

In the meantime there are also first orders from Austria and Brazil.

"But we are also in discussions with other federal states and European countries, from Finland to Italy," said Ruoff.

"Today we can practically pull the system out of the drawer."

For Eventim, it's about taking advantage of the opportunities that arise from the Corona crisis.

"Everyone can imagine that at the moment we have few opportunities to pursue our core services: there are no concerts, no events."

Ruoff did not want to comment on the costs of the vaccination appointment service.

No figures were given in the Kiel Ministry either.

"They depend on the use, that is, the number of calls and the number of online bookings," it just said.
