On Tuesday, Foreign Minister Ann Linde announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will extend its advice against unnecessary travel outside the EU until 15 April.

The purpose is, among other things, to prevent Swedes from traveling away during the sports holiday and the Easter weekend.

"Many are waiting"

But it turns out that the interest in traveling far is not very great.

The travel company Tui has received around 500 bookings for travel outside the EU ahead of the sports holiday weeks.

It can be compared to a normal year, when they arrange trips for about 20,000 customers.

During Easter, the bookings are even fewer, a few hundred.

- It is at very low levels in general.

The uncertain situation means that many are waiting to travel, says Adam Györki, communications manager at Tui to SVT.

He points out that anyone who has a trip booked outside the EU before 15 April has the right to get their money back.

Easier to cancel

The reduced interest can of course be due to the reduced supply.

At the travel agency Apollo, no trips outside the EU are arranged at all during the Easter and sports holiday weeks, and at Ving, all charter trips have been canceled except those to the Canary Islands.

- A normal year we have charters to Thailand, Egypt, Gambia, the Caribbean, Mexico, Cape Verde and more.

So it is very special, says Anna Hagberg, communications manager at Ving.

SAS gives a similar picture.

The airline has already lost a lot of weight and had not planned for any increase in the next few months as very many other countries have their travel restrictions.

- We already fly very little outside the Schengen countries, says Freja Annamatz, press manager at SAS to TT.

Many book travel for next winter

Before the summer, travel looks set to increase, but then especially when it comes to countries within the EU.

- The bookings have doubled week by week since the vaccinations started, but it is from very low levels.

It is about 10-20 percent of a normal summer, says Adam Györki at Tui.

Instead, he sees a new trend.

- Many people book their trip for next winter already now, which is very unusual.

Those trips are booked almost as well as the summer trips right now, says Adam Györki.
