Berlin (dpa) - The Protestant regional church now has an anti-Semitism officer.

The pastor Marion Gardei should fight theological and political anti-Semitism in church life, declared regional bishop Christian Stäblein.

The Church is facing this challenge, the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO) announced on Tuesday

Gardei has been responsible for the culture of remembrance in the EKBO since 2015 and is involved in Christian-Jewish dialogue.

One of their tasks in the future is to sensitize church workers to anti-Jewish prejudice.

In addition, Gardei wants to deal with anti-Semitic traditions in the area of the EKBO and develop contacts with Jewish institutions.
