Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The federal and state disability officers are calling for a better protection concept for people with disabilities in the corona pandemic.

"For many people with disabilities there is uncertainty as to how they will be taken into account in the vaccination prioritization," said Matthias Rösch, state representative for the concerns of people with disabilities in Rhineland-Palatinate, on Tuesday.

"The federal vaccination ordinance must be improved here in order to achieve more safety for people with disabilities."

Rösch is currently the spokesman for the conference of federal and state commissioners for people with disabilities.

Together with his colleagues, he adopted a declaration on Tuesday with the demands for the protection of people with disabilities.

So far, only certain diseases and disabilities have been considered in the vaccination priority.

People with rare, severe pre-existing illnesses for whom there is not yet sufficient scientific evidence on the course of a Covid 19 disease would initially not be considered for the vaccinations.

Here the vaccination ordinance has to be adapted.

The Federal Government's Commissioner for the Disabled, Jürgen Dusel, also called for better protection for the "vulnerable groups" in addition to the vaccination strategy.

Among other things, he advocated a better supply of FFP2 masks.

"In addition, people with an increased risk of infection and their assistants and nurses should be entitled to rapid tests," said Dusel on Tuesday.

Vaccination, protective mask and test regulations should therefore form a «sensible and comprehensible overall concept».

According to the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Social Affairs, many people with disabilities have a significantly increased risk of a severe course of Covid 19 disease.

At the same time, the risk of infection is higher for them, as they are often cared for by other people or live in care facilities.
