Hanover (dpa / lni) - According to the Lower Saxony crisis team, the corona lockdown leads to fewer infections in the country.

The number of cases there is a "significant downward trend," said the head of the crisis team, Heiger Scholz, on Tuesday in Hanover.

If this development continues, a seven-day value of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants will be "tangible" - not yet in the next two weeks, but afterwards.

"That shows us that the tightened lockdown measures are working."

The seven-day value of 50 is considered important in order to be able to understand the chains of infection.

On Tuesday, the State Health Office reported 486 new confirmed infections and 58 more deaths related to Corona.

The nationwide seven-day value fell from 88.6 to 85.5.

1,397 people are currently being treated with Covid-19 in hospitals, 206 of whom are artificially ventilated.

"That is a high number, but far from the capacity overload of our clinics," said Scholz.

According to the information, there are also nine children among the hospital patients.
