Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Distance learning at schools in Rhineland-Palatinate will continue until February 14th due to the corona pandemic.

Primary schools are an exception.

Switching lessons will be possible there from next week (February 1st).

The classes are divided, only one group is taught in the school.

However, the compulsory attendance also remains at the elementary schools.

"All parents who want this can continue to keep their children at home," says the Ministry of Education.

"Informal feedback is sufficient for this."

These children then received offers for home learning from their teachers tailored to their classmates' alternating lessons.

The daycare centers, on the other hand, are open for regular operation if there is an urgent need.

However, the state government appeals to all parents of daycare children to look after them at home if possible.

The care quota has been 36 and 38 percent in the past two weeks, says the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Education, Sabine Schmidt.

"The parents generally deal with it very responsibly."

The CDU top candidate for the state elections, Christian Baldauf, and the education policy spokeswoman for the CDU parliamentary group, Anke Beilstein, want to talk to parents, teachers, educators, pupils and local authorities about the situation in schools today via a video link and maintain daycare centers.

Baldauf and Beilstein will then report on their impressions in Mainz.
