Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The CDU in Rhineland-Palatinate is against opening primary schools in the coming week.

All schools would have to remain closed until February 14, said CDU parliamentary group leader Christian Baldauf on Tuesday in Mainz.

In amending the latest federal-state agreement to contain the corona pandemic, the state government has decided to practice alternating lessons with learning at home and at school for the first four classes from next week.

The requirement to be present remains suspended.

«We can expect any school opening before February 14th.

do not introduce ”, said Baldauf after a video conference with representatives of parents, students and teachers.

"Nobody knows how that should work at all."

Even if the incidence of corona infections on February 15 was still above the threshold of 50, schools would have to remain closed.

Baldauf spoke out in favor of increasing the number of vacation days for parents because of the additional tasks in childcare.

This should be regulated at the federal level as well as for state employees, said the parliamentary group leader, who is also his party's top candidate for the state elections in March.

He would also like the parties to the collective bargaining agreement for parents of children in daycare or of school age.
