The parties instructed their employees to work urgently in order to have time to extend the START-3 treaty until February 5, when this treaty expires.

“They discussed the desire of both countries to extend START-3 for five years, agreeing to instruct their teams to urgently work on completing the extension by February 5,” the White House added.

Earlier, the Kremlin reported that Putin had a telephone conversation with Biden.

During the conversation, the leaders expressed satisfaction with the fact that both countries exchanged notes on reaching an agreement to extend the START Treaty.

Later, Putin submitted to the State Duma a bill on the ratification of the agreement on the extension of the START Treaty.
